Charli XCX is poised to move from behind the camera to the front, with news of a new role in a forthcoming remake of Faces of Death.

As The Wrap reports, the pop power will appear in a reimagining of John Alan Schwartz's 1978 cult horror film, marking her feature film debut.

She joins a cast that includes outgoing Euphoria star Barbie Ferreira and Stranger Things standout Dacre Montgomery. The Wrap notes that the film is currently in production in New Orleans.

The reimagined Faces of Death, arriving via Legendary Entertainment, is co-written by Isa Mazzei and Daniel Goldhaber, the latter of whom is also directing. The two had previously worked together on 2018 film Cam.

"Faces of Death was one of the first viral video tapes, and we are so lucky to be able to use it as a jumping off point for this exploration of cycles of violence and the way they perpetuate themselves online," Mazzei and Goldhaber said in a statement [via The Wrap].

The original Faces of Death is a documentary-style film showing various gruesome ways of dying. Some of the film's scenes were faked, while a string of subsequent sequels contained less fake footage. Upon its release, the film was met with censorship around the world, leading to the unverified marketing claim that it was "banned in 46 countries."

Charli XCX shared fifth studio album CRASH last year, which featured collaborations with Christine and the Queens, Caroline Polachek and Rina Sawayama.

Director Goldhaber, meanwhile, had his How to Blow Up a Pipeline arrive in theatres earlier this month.
