'Black Mirror' Ad Campaign Says Season 6 Is Happening in the Real World Right Now

A new Netflix advertisement in Madrid suggests our current reality is dystopic enough for TV

Black Mirror Season 6 may be a ways off, but who needs TV when reality is dystopic enough as it is? That sentiment rings true in a new ad campaign popping up in bus shelters in Spain.

The campaign — which was conceptualized by Madrid advertisement school Brother and seemingly done in conjunction with Netflix — holds a literal mirror to society and suggests, "Black Mirror 6th season. Live now, everywhere."

Brother shared shots of the campaign earlier today, captioning an Instagram post: "Real life and Black Mirror are dangerously similar."

"It's been months since everything that happens in the world seems like we were living a long episode of Black Mirror," said the agency. "In Netflix, the 5th is the last season you can watch. The 6th is happening in the real world."

The campaign comes after Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker recently stated he doesn't plan to write new episodes anytime soon — because reality is already bad enough.

"At the moment, I don't know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I'm not working away on any on of those," Brooker told Radio Times last month.

However, he did recently return to his Wipe series for a new COVID-19 lockdown special.

Season 5 of Black Mirror aired last summer on Netflix. It featured appearances by Miley Cyrus, Angourie Rice, Madison Davenport, Andrew Scott, Damson Idris, Topher Grace, Anthony Mackie, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Nicole Beharie, Pom Klementieff and Ludi Lin. Earlier in 2019, the series aired a one-off, choose-your-own-adventure episode titled Bandersnatch.
