Published Jun 18, 2018Will Ferrell has signed on to write and star in a new Netflix film based on the international Eurovision Song Contest singing competition.
Simply titled Eurovision, the movie will be written by Ferrell and Andrew Steele. Ferrell and Jessica Elbaum will produce on behalf of Gary Sanchez Productions, while Adam McKay will executive produce.
Gary Sanchez, the production company founded by Ferrell and McKay, recently found straight-to-streaming success via Netflix with the Gillian Jacobs-starring original film Ibiza.
Ferrell's recent big screen credits include The House and Daddy's Home 2.
For folks unfamiliar with the annual singing spectacle, Eurovision started in 1956 and features musical submissions and performances from countries all across Europe (and since 2015, Australia). Stars like ABBA and Céline Dion (for Switzerland) are amongst former winners of the prestigious title.
