Canadian comedian and YouTube star Jus Reign (a.k.a. Jasmeet Singh Raina) will make the leap to television with a new series executive produced by Russell Peters.
Raina's forthcoming series Late Bloomer, co-produced by Pier 21 Films and Reign Productions, is currently in development at CBC.
Said to be inspired by Raina's own life, the half-hour program will find him navigating internet fame, dating, spirituality, culture and family as a first-generation Indo-Canadian.
Late Bloomer is written, executive produced and created by Raina, who also stars in the show. Russell Peters, Clayton Peters and Baljinder Dhawan will also executive produce.
"Jasmeet is a one-of-a-kind talent and the latest in the long line of incredible Canadian comedians to find stardom on the global stage. We are thrilled to be partnering with him on his signature television project," Pier 21 Films senior vice-president of development Bill Lundy said in a statement. "The series Jasmeet has created offers him the freedom to delve into a longer narrative allowing him to be more authentically funny and vulnerable than ever before."
Peters added, "Jasmeet is a huge talent and a true artist. He has proven himself as a seriously funny guy with a massive global following over the past several years on YouTube."
In just over a decade on the platform, Raina has racked up nearly 170 million video views.
