Known for his comedy stylings as much as his musical endeavours, Reggie Watts has now teamed up with producer John Tejada to release music as Wajatta.
The duo have delivered single "Runnin'" through Comedy Dynamics Records today (November 24). The track pairs Watts' largely improvised vocal loops with Tejada's dance-leaning production. You can hear the track in the player below.
As Watts told Billboard, he met Tejada at one of his shows in Los Angeles, eventually connecting to record an album's worth of material together. Tejada describes Watts' vocals on the songs as "male house diva."
"I have so many loops stored and we pulled them in that sessions, picking and choosing," Watts said. "And then he went in and really attacked it, and I just laid down a bunch of random vocals."
Watts added that he and Tejada have a similar creative process, "being able to just flow what was in my head in response to his music and him locking onto that and crafting something great around/with it."
While we await further details of Wajatta's debut LP, take in "Runnin'" in the player below.
