No, we're not playing: Rush are the latest music legends to have their legacy memorialized with a pinball machine, coming next year through Stern Pinball, Inc.
Stern — the self-stylized oldest and largest manufacturer and designer of arcade-quality pinball games — announced on Tuesday (December 28) that its first new machine design of 2022 will be themed around the Canadian prog-rock icons.
In a press release, the company shared that it would be showcasing the new Rush pinball machines at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this January 5 to 8, which they will be attending virtually. A mock-up of what the machine will look like has yet to be published, but a brief video teaser shows a CGI rendering of the owl from the band's 1975 sophomore album Fly by Night.
The clip reveals that at least 17 Rush songs will be featured in the game. Compared to, say, the ten Led Zeppelin numbers included in a band-themed model from Stern's 2020 line, this is quite a long playlist — meaning you can count on a slew of deep cuts as well as classics like "Tom Sawyer," "Red Barchetta" and "Limelight." It looks like they're managing to squeeze in even more tracks than the Ohio State marching band's halftime tribute.
Alongside their latest Jurassic Park pinball machine, the Rush game will include the company's new Insider Connected feature, allowing players to track and share scores, explore pinball activities in their area and more via mobile phone or computer.
Stern's previous music-inspired pinball machines span models dedicated to AC/DC, the Beatles, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Aerosmith and KISS, with pinball wizard Joni Mitchell owning one of the latter. Maybe this new game will make a perfect CanCon edition to the fellow Canadian Music Hall-of-Famer's collection.
