Giving a whole new meaning to 'graveyard shift,' Colin Stetson is counting cemeteries among the venues he'll visit on some upcoming 2024 North American live dates.
Today, the sax man extraordinaire shared a series of new bookings surrounding previously announced shows in the US, Europe and the UK — three of which will see him play the Bohemian National Cemetery in Chicago, IL, and the Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY.
Unusual venues aside, we're dead serious in saying these are performances you won't want buried on your schedule. We imagine there are few environments better than cemeteries for one to experience the artist's "soul-dredging drones" in.
Last year, both Exclaim! staffers and Canadian artists alike named Stetson as a can't-miss festival act, while his recent LP When we were that what wept for the sea was named among the 50 Best Albums of 2023.
Both the aforementioned American graveyards have hosted live music performances in years past. Previously, Chicago's Bohemian National Cemetery has welcomed Mono, Earth, Cindy Lee and Emma Ruth Rundle, while Brooklyn's Green-Wood Cemetery has hosted performances by Mary Lattimore, Circuit des Yeux and the Sun Ra Arkestra.
As for his Canadian appearances, Stetson will instead take listeners in Ottawa higher with a performance at St. Albans Church on May 14, ahead of playing Toronto's Axis Club on May 16 as part of the city's annual TD Toronto Jazz Festival.
