Yamantaka // Sonic Titan have recently got an extra push behind their 2011 disc YT//ST, between its recent Polaris Music Prize shortlisting and news that the debut offering is being reissued by Paper Bag Records this fall, but the self-described "noh-wavers" are ready to play some new tunes. It's been revealed that the outfit will premiere a new rock opera titled 33 // 渦 at this year's Pop Montreal festival.
A press release explains that the title is quite fitting, considering the piece runs 33 minutes long. The September 21 performance at Montreal's Theatre Rialto will be delivered in three parts, and apparently diffuses North American and Asian mythology influences into a contemporary setting. The show is expected to be full of "aging drag queens, desire, fame, jealousy and murder."
In case you missed it, the band also recently issued a new tune called "Lamia," as part of the Adult Swim Singles Series, and you can download the cut for free over here.
Paper Bag's physical re-release of YT//ST arrives September 11.
