Wiz Khalifa has apologized to Romania following his brief arrest in the country over illegal drug possession.
On Saturday night (July 13), the cannabis hero performed at the Beach, Please! Festival, and was allegedly arrested after smoking on stage. Publicly available setlist data shows Khalifa apparently made it through only two songs before being escorted out by authorities.
Cannabis is illegal for recreational use in Romania, and Khalifa was later released from custody. Regardless of the rule-breaking, he still had a better showing than French Montana.
"During a recital held during a music festival held in the Costinești resort, Constanța county, [Khalifa] possessed over 18 grams of cannabis (risk drug) and consumed (on stage) another amount of cannabis under the shape of a craft cigarette," a translated press release from Romanian anti-organized crime prosecutors DIICOT reads [via The Hollywood Reporter]. "We make it clear that, during the entire criminal process, the investigated persons benefit from the procedural rights and guarantees provided by the Code of Criminal Procedure, as well as the presumption of innocence."
Khalifa would later address the incident on X (formerly Twitter), writing, "Last nights show was amazing. I didn't mean any disrespect to the country of Romania by lighting up on stage. They were very respectful and let me go. I'll be back soon. But without a big ass joint next time."
