Wilco's Jay Bennett Honoured with Namesake Charity and Posthumous Album Release

When former Wilco member Jay Bennett passed away almost a year ago, he left behind one final solo album that will now see an official release this summer. But this won't be just any release. The album, entitled Kicking at the Perfumed Air, will serve as a fundraiser for a new foundation in Bennett's name that will launch on May 24, the one-year anniversary of his death.

The charity is being called the Jay Bennett Foundation, which aims to "benefit music and education, in memory of Jay Bennett," according to the foundation's Facebook page

It was formed by Bennett's mother, Jan, his brother, Jeff, who Rock 'N Roll Ghost [via TwentyFourBit] quotes as saying, "This album is part of a larger effort to honour Jay's memory and enhance his legacy by exposing more people to his music and by supporting charitable efforts to make the world a better place."

Kicking at the Perfumed Air will be released digitally on July 10 for free, but those who download the album will have the option of donating to the Jay Bennett Foundation. The physical version of Kicking at the Perfumed Air will also reportedly be out the same day, with an undisclosed percentage of the proceeds going to charity.

You can currently listen to the album tracks "Twice A Year" and "Mirror Ball" here.

Bennett is known for his many contributions to Wilco over the years, including his last album with the group, 2002's Yankee Hotel Foxtrot. Bennett had also released five solo LPs before his death.
