Soccer Mommy's North American tour was one of many postponed due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, but Sophie Allison and her band are making up for it with a new series of music videos featuring cities they were set to visit on the tour, including Toronto.
The five-part "8-Bit Music Video Tour" finds digital versions of the band performing color theory track "crawling in my skin" in infamous landmarks in Toronto, Minneapolis, Chicago, Seattle and Austin. The Toronto instalment features the quintet performing the tune in the decommissioned Lower Bay subway platform, as ghosts and commuters shuffle around them.
The platform — which lies beneath the still-active Bay station platform — was commissioned in 1966 for a quickly abandoned subway project. The platform was repurposed as a film set, training ground for new train operators, and occasional event space. It's been known to host a band or two on special occasions, like during Exclaim!'s CMW Underground showcase in 2018, headlined by Fucked Up.
Other landmarks including Austin's bat-infested Ann W. Richards Congress Avenue Bridge and Chicago's notoriously haunted Congress Plaza Hotel.
This is Soccer Mommy's latest video game-themed effort to connect with fans during lockdown, following a digital performance on online multiplayer gaming platform Club Penguin Rewritten and regular livestreams of her playing Stardew Valley on her YouTube channel.
