Julia Jacklin released her lovely sophomore album PRE PLEASURE back in August — featuring "I Was Neon," one of our favourite songs of the year — and around the time of its release, Jacklin spoke about how Céline Dion was a "spiritual guide" during the making of the record.
Speaking to Consequence in the summer, Jacklin said:
I feel like it's a bit of a personality test for me now. If someone is shit-talking Céline Dion, I'm like, "What do you find joy in?" I'm not saying everyone has to like Céline Dion, but it's so easy to not take that kind of artist seriously. But they are so beloved and they obviously are doing something that really connects with people, and that is so valuable.
Now, Jacklin has proven her devotion by covering one of Dion's most enduring hits, the Titanic love song "My Heart Will Go On," at a show in Madrid last night (November 30). The cover ends up sounding pretty great and surprisingly non-hokey, and the crowd sang along enthusiastically.
