The 2019 Polaris Music Prize was handed out last night (September 16), with a big gala party to celebrate, but before Haviah Mighty was pronounced the winner, nine of the 10 shortlisted nominees performed.
Jessie Reyez was unable to perform due to an ongoing injury, but she was in attendance to watch the other nominees take over the stage.
PUP kicked things off with a performance of "Kids," "Free at Last" and "Full Blown Meltdown," followed by Marie Davidson's "Work It."
Shad performed "The Fool Pt 1" and then brought out past Polaris winner Lido Pimienta for a rendition of "Magic." Elisapie treated the audience to "Darkness Bring the Light" and "Arnaq," then the night's eventual winner Haviah Mighty aptly did a medley of her album 13th Floor.
Les Louanges performed "La nuit est une panthère," Dominique Fils-Aimé played "Gun Burial" and "Free Dom," FET.NAT took viewers on a trip, and then Snotty Nose Rez Kids closed out the performance part of the night with "Wa'wais (medley)."
