A Canadian took over the American Idol stage on Sunday... isn't it ironic?

Ed Sheeran and national treasure Alanis Morissette stepped in as guest judges for the long-running singing competition as judges Katy Perry and Lionel Richie crossed the Atlantic to perform at the coronation of King Charles III over the weekend.

Morissette set the tone for the Top 8 contestants by performing her 1998 hit "Thank U" as only she could.

Later on in the show, contestants covered several of her songs in a bid to remain in the competition, namely: "Ironic," "Hand in My Pocket," "Head over Feet" and "Uninvited." The covers can be found on the American Idol YouTube.

Morissette will take those hits and more to the RBC Canadian Open in Toronto on June 10. Tickets can be found here.
