Wale

More About Nothing

BY Anupa MistryPublished Sep 24, 2010

A year ago, Wale and his Gaga-featuring anthem, "Chillin'," were on radios everywhere, pre-empting the release of studio debut Attention Deficit. The record did just okay ― it didn't sell so well and critics either panned or loved it ― but where's Wale now? Fighting against Internet-induced redundancy with the More About Nothing mixtape, a continued play on the Seinfeld premise (he's also put out Mixtape About Nothing). Mixtapes have been Wale's thing since he came up and that could possibly explain why Attention Deficit didn't do very well, but he's back in better form. From sales-fuelled resentment on "The Problem" to relationship woes on "The Friends N Strangers," Wale's caught up in his own whirlwind, but once he starts to loosen up and regain form (rapping about whatever or, in this case, nothing), More About Nothing picks up speed. It's a good thing too, because while 21 tracks might be normal for a mixtape, in 2010, you've got to keep listeners' attention.
