The first night in a series of three pop music nights put on by Winnipeg label Endearing proved to be a splendid example of the bright music that is pouring out of the city. Getting the night off to a wonderful start, Mike Trike, (featuring members of Chords of Canada, Nathan, and the Lovedaddys) were definitely the highlight of the evening. It took little effort to wow the packed club with their warm sounds and graceful harmonies. Front-man Michael Marshall writes brilliant pop songs. Ever since their first live gig opening up for Robert Schneider (Apples in Stereo), Waking Eyes have been impressing crowds all over the globe, including their new Toronto management team. The rambunctious fellows in Waking Eyes jumped and shook on stage with all their might through their set of '60s-influenced songs including covers of Wings and Stevie Wonder songs. Haranguing the audience to purchase their new EP, a few broken instruments and the occasional failed starts only added to the quirkiness of their already kitschy sound, making for a boisterous show.
