In under two weeks, Super Bowl XLVIII will have the Seattle Seahawks battling it out on the gridiron against the Denver Broncos. If you're not a fan of either, you can celebrate Bowls of yore with Louisville, KY radio host Sean Cannon, who has reimagined the 1985 Chicago Bears' triumphant rap single "The Super Bowl Shuffle" with an all-star lineup including My Morning Jacket's Jim James and adorable cat celebrity Lil Bub.
Throwing things back to a simpler time, the cover stays true to the original's old-school electro pop and plink, with contributors like Les Savy Fav's Tim Harrington, Man Man vocalist Honus Honus, The Best Show host Tom Scharpling, and comedians David Wain, Scott Aukerman, Kyle Kinane and Dave Hill tackling their verses with gusto. While many go word-for-word as they roll out bars about sweet sacks and getting ready for a Sunday fight, Aukerman manages to sneak his own name into Otis Wilson's original verse.
Apparently, Jim James is the one wailing out a junky sax solo, and obviously Bub is laying down the meows, though we have no idea who's delivering the slide whistle.
You can stream the quirky cover now via the player down below or pick it up as a digital download via Misfire Records' Bandcamp. A 7-inch will be pressed at a later date, with proceeds going to the Reading Is Fundamental charity.
