What if someone gave Godflesh as much PCP as they could handle? This is a question NYC's Uniform have decided to answer. With a drum machine programmed to deliver maximum velocity and annoyance, the duo on guitar and vocals are a whirr of noise and high intensity pissed-offedness. They smash together industrial, noise and classic hardcore into an assault that belies its simple presentation. Michael Berdan presents an updated and unwinking version of John Lydon's menace, channeled through a voice flattening filter, making his words part of the overall arrrrrrrgh of sound. Ben Greenberg unleashes guitar as a feedback sword that can also deliver an afterthought of tone and melody, but their foremost approach is the pummel, pummel and pummel variety. And is it effective? You betcha. Just when you think maybe you've become immune to the noise, they pull out their cover of Black Sabbath's "Symptom of the Universe" to blow off the socks you'd just finished slipping back on.
