Given the band's 16-year career, Unearth joked that they could be considered "classic metalcore" when Exclaim! TV caught up with them at the Toronto stop of the "Hell or High Wattage Tour". However, they also requested people stop calling their imitators (and imitators' imitators) metalcore, because there's no hardcore to be found in the current crop of acts' watered down formulas.
Fortunately, Unearth still are hardcore, as was made evident by their inclusion in this year's This Is Hardcore festival. For their latest aural testament to metalcore, look no further than the vicious Watchers of Rule, which the band talked about in depth in our latest instalment of Aggressive Tendencies. They also touch on avoiding trends by doing what they want to do, their new label homes and coming up in the hardcore scene.
Watch the interview in the player below, which can be found underneath a list of the band's remaining Canadian tour dates this year.
Tour dates:
12/27 Toronto, ON – Danforth Music Hall ^*
12/28 Ottawa, ON – Ritual ^
^ with Protest the Hero
* with Intervals
Filmed by Katherine Kwan
Interviewed and edited by Bradley Zorgdrager
(A huge thank you to Hate5Six.com (Sunny Singh, Steven Cergizan and Len Carmichael) for bumping ahead Unearth's in their queue of This Is Hardcore footage to edit so we could include it here.)
