As many of his German contemporaries are busy micromanaging blips and bleeps, Berlin-via-Kiel's Ulrich Schnauss has found success injecting warm, atmospheric soundscapes into the post-techno vernacular. On Missing Deadlines: Selected Remixes, Schnauss further explores his adoration for shoegaze/dream pop by compiling his remix work over the past 15 years. Working with a new breed of reverb-drenchers (Asobi Seksu, A Sunny Day in Glasgow, Madrid), along with pioneers (Slowdive's Rachel Goswell, Ride's Mark Gardener, Rainbirds' Katharina Franck), Schnauss chooses to retain the original structure of each song, frequently adding layers of reverb and echo, in turn delivering a remix album in its most literal form. With highlights including the sonic ebb and flow of Howling Bell's captivating single "Setting Sun," the striking immediacy of Lunz's (featuring Roedelius of Cluster) self-titled track and the epic overdrive of Mojave 3's "Bluebird of Happiness." Missing Deadlines stands as a fitting love letter to a still viable genre.
