Before they joined up with Odd Future, Trash Talk had already built a reputation as do-as-they-may thrash punks. And that's the beauty of 119: even with its requisite Tyler, the Creator guest rap, "Blossom & Burn" sounds as much like latter-era Celtic Frost as it does Public Enemy, and there's never a sense that their association with the hip-hop collective is anywhere near as desperate as "Bring the Noise." Instead, 119 rallies through 21 minutes of neck-snapping hardcore, peppering its sometimes slower sound with a metallic edge that stretches the album out to the band's longest yet. Because of that there's the possibility that maybe Trash Talk's holding something back. It isn't quite restraint, though there seems to be an extra gear missing, but the newfound sense of control isn't necessarily a good thing.
