Towers and Trees

'The West Coast' (album stream)

BY Sarah MurphyPublished Sep 25, 2015

Victoria-based indie folk unit Towers and Trees are paying homage to home on their debut full-length The West Coast, and before it officially washes ashore, Exclaim! is giving you a chance to stream it in its entirety.

The album follows the band's 2013 EP Broken Record and hears band leader Adrian Chalifour learning some big life lessons and channelling them into song.

"The West Coast was a very personal, and at times painful album to write," he said in a statement. "It follows my journey through, among other things, the end of a relationship and young marriage that spanned 12 years of my life. If there's a lesson in this story I'd say it's maybe to never regret the waters you chose to sprint into, and to always seek the passion and courage to sprint again."

Listeners can follow the sad-turned-hopeful journey starting with the triumphant sounding folk-pop of songs like "West Coast Man" and "FREE," and moving through the bluesy soul of "Bad Heart" before coming to a triumphant, cathartic close with "Hearts on Fire (Letting Go)."
