Victoria indie folk outfit Towers and Trees are set to release their debut LP West Coast later this year, but first, they've shared the brand new video for the album's title track right here on Exclaim.ca.
The band is more of a loose collective — wavering between five and nine members, but always anchored by the songwriting of frontman Adrian Chalifour. Ben and Andrea Lubberts, Donovan Rush, Dave Zellinsky and Jesse Boland round out the group's core, each leaving their impact on the collaborative nature of the music.
"West Coast" is a song about forgiveness, according to Chalifour. "For me, both symbolically and literally, the West Coast is the place where you draw the line in the sand between what was and what may be," he says. "That imagery of making fire, sharing a warm drink, washing in cold waves — it's tragic but it's cathartic, and it's what I needed to still believe in love in the midst of losing it."
The visuals reflect his personal journey from the time-lapsed shots of the big city to the isolated, rugged coastline. That footage is interspersed with shots of the band playing together, all filmed by director Daniel Pender.
While details for the album's release have yet to be confirmed, let the anticipation start building now by watching the video premiere of title track "West Coast." You can also stream the audio-only track below.
