Tom DeLonge Pens Open Letter to Matt Skiba: "Thank You for All That You Have Done to Keep the Band Thriving in My Absence"

Alkaline Trio's Skiba joined Blink-182 in place of DeLonge in 2015

For all the will-they-won't-they anticipation of the reunion of Blink-182's original trio, Matt Skiba — the Alkaline Trio bandleader who replaced rogue alien hunter Tom DeLonge in the prophetic punks' lineup in 2015 — has been kept in the dark as much as the rest of us.

Addressing his current status in the band (read: whether or not he was still in it) this summer, he admitted that his guess was as good as yours.

Which is to say, the guitarist may have learned that DeLonge had rejoined Blink on Tuesday (October 11) alongside all of us.

Ahead of new music and a world tour, DeLonge has stepped away from his probes to pen an open letter to his former replacement, taking to Instagram to thank Skiba for keeping the band "thriving" in his absence.

He wrote:

Hi Matt-

Tom DeLonge here. I wanted to take a minute and say thank you for all that you have done to keep the band thriving in my absence. I think you are enormously talented (I still love and listen to your band to this day). You have always been so kind to me, not only in the press, but also to others. I really noticed. Emotions between the three of us in blink have always been complicated, but Mark's cancer really put things in perspective. But to be honest, the band would not even be here today if it were not for your ability to jump in and save the day. So from my heart to yours, thank you for being a member of our band.
