Timothée Chalamet is in talks to play Bob Dylan in an upcoming biopic tentatively titled Going Electric.
The project is being helmed by Ford v Ferrari director James Mangold, and it has secured the rights to the book Dylan Goes Electric by Elijah Wald.
As the working title implies, the film will focus on the period in Dylan's career when he went from folk hero to rock'n'roller — to the dismay of many.
Dylan is actively collaborating with Searchlight Pictures and Mangold on the film. He will serve as an executive producer and has granted the rights to his music to the project.
It's unclear if Chalamet will sing renditions of Dylan's classic tunes, though according to Deadline, the actor is already taking guitar lessons to familiarize himself with the instrument.
Mangold has previous experience making biopics about iconic musicians; he directed 2005's Walk the Line, which told the story of Johnny Cash and June Carter.
Chalamet's recent credits include roles in Little Women, The King, Beautiful Boy, Lady Bird and Call Me By Your Name. He will also star in Denis Villenueve's adaptation of Dune and Wes Anderson's The French Dispatch.
