The Stevie Nicks Barbie only left Barbieland two days ago, and she's already learning about the perils of late capitalism. After pre-orders sold out in minutes yesterday (October 2), the doll is showing up on resale sites for nearly double the price.
Originally listed at $55 USD, the Nicks Barbie was limited to 10 purchases per customer on the Mattel website, and 30 purchases per customer on Amazon. Who could have guessed that these entirely reasonable limits would lead to the witchiest Barbie of all to land in the hands of resellers?
Just kidding. Multiple listings on eBay are selling the doll for $120–$150 USD on average, with the most expensive listing sitting just south of $300. Since the Barbie hasn't been shipped yet, the sellers are calling their own listings a presale. Maybe that's not so farfetched, considering many accounts are telling on themselves for having sold 28/30 of their Barbies.
It seems like a lot of trust to put into some random on eBay, especially for a product that hasn't even been shipped yet. If Nicks is right and her Barbie has her "spirit" and her "heart," this isn't it.
