He got to preserve his dignity and look cool

It's hard to look cool when doing comedy — but Jon Bon Jovi is still going to try. The Lonely Island have now revealed the singer's stipulation for getting punched while appearing in a 2007 Digital Short called "People Getting Punched Just Before Eating."

The sketch plays out exactly as you'd expect from the title, as Andy Samberg punches people just before they take a bite of food. This includes Bon Jovi, who's about to tuck into some salad before Samberg bursts in from off-frame. Immediately after getting hit, Bon Jovi pops back up holding a guitar as the words "FULL RECOVERY!" appear on the screen. That dignity-preserving recovery was Bon Jovi's idea.

"I feel like he pitched that, because he didn't want to get fully punched," recalled Jorma Taccone on The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast.

"Adding that is how he agreed to get punched," Samberg confirmed. "But, bless his heart, he was in it, and it did get a laugh. And 'full recovery' gets a laugh."

Later in the episode, Meyers and the Lonely Island read the comments on the YouTube video. Meyers pointed out, "Somebody did call it: 'Bon Jovi was like, "I won't do this unless I can save face and look cool."'"

Revisit the short below. Bon Jovi preserves his dignity, and it is indeed pretty funny!
