Montreal psych-rock septet TEKE::TEKE are officially taking the near-mythic energy of their live show on the North American road in 2022 — and they've shared a video for "Kala Kala" from their debut 2021 LP Shirushi to commemorate the occasion.
Starting January 13, the group will play dates in Ottawa, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Saskatoon, Calgary and Vancouver before crossing the border in February for their maiden voyage on US stages.
Shirushi's lead single and album opener "Kala Kala" is characteristically onomatopoeic like TEKE::TEKE, intended to mimic the sound of "clattering" or "rattling." Lyrically, lead vocalist Maya Kuroki's untrammelled Japanese poetry explores the ambiguity of gender identity.
"Cluttering refers to the sound of masks changing fast or a spinning wheel, or anything that moves in a kind of cycle," guitarist Serge Nakauchi-Pelletier said in a statement. "It's just an image I had when thinking about identity and everybody's quest for one, or quest for some kind of meaning as a living being. For yet another DIY video, we just wanted to go crazy with the visuals to match the energy of the music using Maya's colourful illustrations."
Tickets for TEKE::TEKE's tour will be available for pre-sale tomorrow (November 25), with general sales set to follow on Friday (November 26).
