Depression-era nostalgists and rock cabaret duo Dresden Dolls had a pretty rabid cult following, so it's no surprise that former Doll Amanda Palmer's new project is already beginning to kick the hype machine into gear.
The singer/lyricist/performer has teamed up with equally dramatic former Seattle busker Jason Webley for a new group called Evelyn Evelyn. In typically theatrical fashion, the duo's Wikipedia page insists that the group were "discovered in 2007 by Amanda Palmer of the Dresden Dolls and Jason Webley. The duo consists of two conjoined twin sisters, ('Eva' and 'Lyn' aka) Evelyn and Evelyn Neville." Following in that vein, the band even Twitter as a pair, always speaking plurally ("we want twix"), and their "favourite movies" and "favourite books," according to their MySpace page, all are united by themes of twins and children.
Well, the band will release their self-titled debut on March 30 via Eleven Records and it will feature guests such as Tegan and Sara, Neil Gaiman, Andrew W.K., Weird Al Yankovic, My Chemical Romance's Gerard Way and, in her studio-recorded debut, Kurt Cobain's daughter Frances Bean Cobain, all of whom sing gang vocals on a track called "MySpace." Apparently, there's also a cover of Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart," because there apparently aren't enough of those out already.
No tracklisting has been revealed for the record yet, but there are some Evelyn Evelyn live dates.
