Following a stellar Jellyfish Recordings showcase and what was announced to be the final show ever for the Meek Odyssey, Mtendere Mandowa (aka Teebs) brought liquid instrumental hip-hop and ethereal summer beats, imported from L.A., to the early evening beach bar/parking lot setting. Mandowa was a gracious, accommodating performer, moving from mellow head-nodders to glitchy, upbeat party-rockers, including reworked tracks from Flying Lotus and Jeremiah Jae, after surveying the audience to gauge their mood. He cracked a few jokes and showed admirable humility, owning up to a mistake that he could have probably covered up if he tried. Mandowa's warped, organic sound palette laced with subtle stutters and warm bass well suited the blazing afternoon, like a half-remembered dream in a sun-drunk haze.
