SZA Worried Drake Sabotaged Her by Using First-Draft Vocals on "Slime You Out"

"I handed in second vocals and he didn't use that. And now I'm like, 'Are you trying to sabotage me?'"

Exclaim! has already labelled Drake's For All the Dogs lead single "Slime You Out" with SZA one of the album's weaker tracks, but, apparently, we're not alone. SZA herself has revealed that the song's production actually made her wonder if Drake was trying to make her look bad.

In an interview published today by the Wall Street Journal, she recalled her surprise — and concern — at the vocal take used in the song's final cut.

"If you accept my first draft, I won't trust you," she prefaced. "I just handed in the first draft to Drake, and he's putting it on his album. I'm scared because I handed in second vocals and he didn't use that. And now I'm like, 'Are you trying to sabotage me?' I know that's not true. I literally know that's not true, but that's how bad I feel about my first draft. When things come from an effortless space, I almost can't enjoy it."

It begs the question, of course, which vocal take Drake used on her second For All the Dogs guest spot "Rich Baby Daddy" alongside Sexyy Red, which landed among Exclaim!'s favourites from the project.

SZA's insecurity does make sense, considering that, earlier in the interview, she discussed a steadfast desire to take her time on projects and refusal to give in to fan pressure to release more music, more often.

"The songs that I care so much about, that I tried so hard on, people be like, 'That's nice,'" she said. "But the shit that took no thought and came out of my mouth in five seconds? 'Girl, that's the one.'"
