In the '90s, the face of Western Canadian hip-hop was predominately that of the Rascalz, in the years since, groups like Sweatshop Union and in a more commercial sense, Swollen Members have assumed that mantle. 10 Years of Turmoil is the BC group's latest release and it's comprised of their greatest hits, from debut Balance to their most recent album, Armed to the Teeth. A large portion of the tracks are from fourth studio album Black Magic, released in 2006, and despite leaving the group to pursue solo ventures, Moka Only appears four times, including on "Fuel Injected," which is unsurprisingly the lead on this compilation. As a bonus for fans, they have included a DVD that contains videos and a short documentary on the lead up to 2009's Armed to the Teeth, which essentially focuses on Mad Child's battle with addiction to Percocet and OxyContin, as well as introduces people to the newest Battle Axe warrior: Tre Nyce. Rob the Viking and Prevail also add their two cents, interspersed between concert footage shot at Lee's Palace in Toronto, ON. With the liner notes stating there are upcoming releases for the group as a whole, as well side solo projects, it's understandable they didn't include any new material. Rather, they commemorate a milestone of longevity, something made all the more worth celebrating after Mad Child was able to get back on track.
