Suuns

Garrison, Toronto ON June 15

Billed as special guests, Suuns brooding post-rock stood in stark contrast to some of the more spry acts on the bill, and consequently, their pulsing tunes had some headed for the door. Those that stuck around, though, were treated to an intensely cathartic set which showcased tunes from the Montreal quartet's debut, Zeroes QC. The long, minimalist builds of each song were greeted with an explosion of energy that never got old. Lead singer Ben Shemie seethed into the mic throughout their set, adding a sense of danger to the proceedings, even if it was simply an act, while keyboardist Max Henry appeared lost in the groove for most of the performance. This may not have been their audience, but you would never have known it by the way they played.
