Sunparlour Players Announce New Album, Front-man Debuts Musical

BY Brock ThiessenPublished May 6, 2009

Following the commendable Hymns for the Happy, Toronto's the Sunparlour Players have announced they're ready for album number two. Dubbed Wave North, the group's sophomore effort is due out May 19 via Outside, promising to further "their alternative style" and "peppering the tunes with a tip of the hat to Randy Newman, Tom Waits and perhaps even some Buffalo Tom," according to the PR.

Produced by Jeremy Backofen (Mice Parade, Felice Brothers, Frightened Rabbit) at Blue Rodeo's Woodshed Studio and the Fembots Junkshop, the album comes as the band are set to embark on a Canadawide tour, which finds the Sunparlour Players travelling across the country and playing shows in both the west and east. It also comes as the group's head Player, Andrew Penner, is set to debut another new body of work penned for The Book of Judith, a new musical that will run in Toronto from May 19 to 31 at Toronto's CAMH Grounds, featuring music composed by Penner.
