Sum 41's Dave "Brownsound" Baksh Reveals Cancer-Free Diagnosis

"Something incredible that this disease taught me is how many amazing and supportive people I have in my life"

In the midst of the co-headlining Blame Canada Tour with Simple Plan, Sum 41 guitarist Dave Baksh — a.k.a. Brownsound — has revealed that he has beaten cancer after discovering a tumour in March.

The musician shared his health update via Instagram, where he explained that he underwent surgery to remove the mass just two weeks after learning of its presence.

He said:

Don't be concerned, my brush with this serious disease was very short-lived thanks to the help of great doctors, a friend that helped me get a bone scan within weeks of my surgery, my family (extended included), the amazing people in #LDK (up the Kzinti!) and last but not least the emotional, physical and celery juice support that [partner Kendra Emmett] and my wonderfully amazing gifted, did I mention wonderful, kids gave me.

Baksh added, "Something incredible that this disease taught me is how many amazing and supportive people I have in my life. I'm beyond thankful for you and I'm forever in your debt."

The guitarist further notes that he's now "cancer-free and ready to enjoy tour life again with a fresh perspective on everything."

The Blame Canada Tour resumes this evening in Pittsburgh, PA. As previously reported, the two bands are skipping their home country entirely on the run. As Simple Plan drummer Chuck Comeau told Exclaim! back in February, "As far as Canada, we haven't gotten there yet. We'd love to, obviously. It would be great to come home to the home and native land and do the run, but there's no plans in place for that just yet, but we'll definitely be talking."

Fans will be able to catch Sum 41 at Festival dété du Quebec and RBC's Ottawa Bluesfest in July.
