Still Remains

The Serpent

BY Bill WhishPublished Aug 5, 2007

Still Remains are set to release their second full-length, The Serpent, and will certainly have some form of appeal to the masses. Sound-wise, it’s mostly the metalcore feel you’d expect from any band labelled "up and coming.” However, Still Remains should be credited with trying to stir the pot a little bit. They do add a lot of keyboards to the mix and, at times, sound like they’ve actually been taken in off the streets of Gothenburg, something the vast majority of their peers cannot claim. There are also a lot of slower, cleaner parts to this record. This variation, however, is not good at all. The inclusion of parts that sound almost like mainstream radio rock come off as almost immature sounding, carrying no resonance whatsoever. Kudos should be given for trying to mix it up but Still Remains are not unique and stand to fall amongst the litany of metalcore acts of the modern age of metal.
