Still Remains

The Serpent

Sure, they may look like complete spineless morons in the band picture, what with the eyeliner (sigh) and fancy bangs and all, but, hey, let’s not write this one off just yet. Oh, all right, let’s just write it off. Maybe teenyboppers will dig this stuff but as a grown man, I find it increasingly difficult to justify the time spent listening to soulless music that even the band members will completely forget about six years from now. After listening to the CD, it’s even a bit worse than predicted, what with those totally weak-sounding keyboards, the rote singing/screaming and a penchant for stale Gothenburg riffs. If that by-the-numbers melodic chorus in "The Wax Walls of an Empty Room” doesn’t make you want to freak out, man, you’re already dead. I kind of liked the last two minutes of closing track "Avalanche” but probably just because I knew the album was coming to an end.
