Through the suffocating haze of smoke, fans of cult underground stoner kings Sleep have been anxiously awaiting confirmed tour dates since an initial announcement was made late last year that the band would indeed reunite for some touring in 2010. Well, we realize that Sleep fans have probably completely forgotten about this news and are busy staring at a wall by this point, so we're here to wake you guys up and give you the confirmed tour dates.
Unfortunately for Canadian fans, there are so far no Canuck dates on the U.S.-only tour, which kicks off on September 3 in Monticello, NY. The dates wrap up a mere six gigs later, on September 12, in San Francisco, CA. A complete list of the shows is below.
Of special note to the hirsute masses who take special note of this kind of thing is the fact that Jason Roeder of Neurosis fame will be playing drums for this incarnation of Sleep, a combination that is sure to be extremely intense live. Add to that the fact that the band will be playing their classic Holy Mountain album in its entirety, and these are going to be shows worth a little travelling time.
Last year was actually pretty busy for the defunct band, as Holy Mountain was reissued and the band played at the All Tomorrow's Parties' The Fans Strike Back festival. Sleep's Matt Pike also keeps busy these days playing in doom/sludge/trad metal riff masters High on Fire.
Tour dates:
9/3 Monticello, NY - All Tomorrow's Parties
9/7 Philadelphia, PA - Starlight Ballroom
9/8 New York, NY - Brooklyn Masonic Temple $
9/9 Chicago, IL - Logan Square Auditorium $
9/10 Austin, TX - Mohawk %
9/11 Portland, OR - Roseland Theater ^
9/12 San Francisco, CA - Regency Ballroom
