One thing is for certain: Shotgun Jimmie loves his friends. With the release of his fifth record, Field of Trampolines, Jimmie has created an album bursting with friendship, good vibes and dreams of an endless summer. He also brought a lot of friends along for the ride, with his touring band Human Music backing him on the record, and Halifax rock legend Joel Plaskett on production.
Field of Trampolines rips right out of the gate with "Join the Band," an anthem to the joys of touring. The song is peppered with Plaskett's sound that thankfully never fully takes over, merely heavy echo on a vocal or that classic twang so associated with Plaskett's work. Shotgun Jimmie is very much the star of this show, with a phenomenal backing cast. Jimmie's lyricism and vocal styling is a real highlight of the record, crooning out European names with a goofy-suave demeanour, as well as next-level puns, such as on the camping rocker "Triple Letter Score," with the soon to be classic line "Sunglasses, beach towel, hanging with the angry owl, it's a who's who."
Shotgun Jimmie even has time to pay tribute to his buds, with tunes about the Constatines ("Constantine Believer"), Attack in Black ("Love Letter") and East coast greats Eric's Trip ("Song for Julie, Chris, Rick + Mark"). Field of Trampolines sounds like memories of your last great road trip.
