Heavens to Betsy! Queer rockabilly punk icons Shannon and the Clams are back with news of their follow-up to 2021's Year of the Spider. The Moon Is in the Wrong Place is due to arrive on May 10 via Easy Eye Sound, the label owned and operated by Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys, who also produced the record.
The album came together following the tragic passing of singer-bassist Shannon Shaw's fiancé, Joe Haener, in a car accident weeks leading up to their wedding. It's described as "a holistic exploration of grief and celebration of life coupled with the most expansive, exciting songs and arrangements of their celebrated catalogue."
The group are previewing the effort today with its title track, arriving alongside a psychedelic music video directed by Bobbi Rich.
"We all felt the urgency of making something that reckoned with this meteor that smashed into our planet," keyboardist Will Sprott said of project. "This is the most focused record we've ever done, as far as everything coming from a singular traumatic event."
Shannon and the Clams are due to take the record on the road throughout 2024, starting with a set at SXSW. From there, they've mapped out a bunch of dates stateside, as well as a handful in Canada — they'll play Toronto (May 25), Montreal (May 26) and Vancouver (October 15) before the run ends in Oakland.
Presales for the tour begin January 26 at 10 a.m. local time and ends at 11:59 p.m. on January 30. General on-sale begins on January 31 at 10 a.m. ET.
