Although billed as a "progressive" metal band, Shadow Gallery's aptly acrobatic changes in tempo are not enough to earn the diploma. The visuals their music generates are striking, like a pre-steroid Arnold Schwarzenegger playing Dungeons and Dragons, while a halfway-to-castratoville Ronnie James Dio plays Supertramp covers for K-Tel. Functionally, their music could also accompany any '80s B-movie, or be the soundtrack to any Nelvana cartoon or commercial for an imaginative action toy geared towards boys who take their role playing rather seriously.
