Screeching Weasel

Weaselmania

BY Sam SutherlandPublished Nov 1, 2005

If you didn’t have the cash to pick up Asian Man’s complete set of Screeching Weasel reissues earlier this year, than this compilation of 34 SW songs culled from 13 different records, is a great place to start. Pulling together the closest things the band have ever had to hits, classic songs like "My Right” and "I Wanna Be A Homosexual” are all included, along with some of the band’s lesser-known material from late-era albums like Thank You Very Little and Teen Punks In Heat. Champions of the simplistic, every Screeching Weasel song plays like a spirited tribute to the Ramones, inflected with a snarky suburban attitude and pop culture sensibility. Ben Weasel’s nasal vocal delivery and snotty lyrics have polarised punks since the band debuted at the end of the ’80s, and this collection won’t do anything to change the minds of the haters. For anyone with only a surface knowledge of the band’s work, this collection is a great place to start, bringing together all kinds of outcasts under the banner of fun, punk and nudity.
