Sackville's Sappyfest is returning for its 17th edition this July, and after announcing its preliminary 2022 lineup earlier this month, the fest has shared an expanded lineup featuring the likes of Julie Doiron, Steven Lambke, Colleen Coco Collins, Hot Garbage, Tough Age, José Contreras and more.
These newly-announced additions will join previously-announced performers Ami Dang, Apollo Ghosts, Bird Feet, Cedric Noel, Circuit des Yeux, Jon McKiel, OMBIIGIZI, Sook-Yin Lee and more.
Sappyfest 17 will also feature the Phonoautomat — a mini, instant recording booth that allows one to record up to five minutes of anything they'd like and leave with physical copies on cassette. Totally solar-powered, mobile, self-contained and off the grid, the Phonoautomat is built into a '70s camper trailer, and features drums and amplifiers, a fully analog recording studio, and a cassette duplicator.
Built and run by engineer Jake Nicoll and his assistants Ariel Sharratt and Mathias Kom (a.k.a. the Burning Hell), the Phonoautomat is available to all and ready to host spontaneous collaborations, music, spoken word, poetry, sound art, audio collage or whatever else might come to mind.
"Our Sappyfest 17 lineup strikes that special balance of old friends and exciting discoveries," said Sappyfest's new Creative Director Andrea Vincent in a statement. "We are thrilled to welcome home some of the dear family that has made Sappyfest what it is and what it has come to be, and to invite new artists to this wonderful, annual reunion."
Sappyfest 17 runs July 29 to 31.
