Constantines guitarist Steven Lambke has been keeping busy these days by operating his label You've Changed Records, but he hasn't forgotten about his own musical pursuits. Lambke has just announced that his latest album, Volcano Volcano, is due for release on April 29 via You've Changed.
Picking up where 2019's Dark Blue left off — reuniting that album's core trio of Lambke, fellow You've Changed co-founder Daniel Romano and David Nardi — Volcano Volcano is set to be another collection of upbeat folk rock tracks that twang and scorch in equal measure, with lyrics critiquing our modern excesses and charting a communal path forward delivered in Lambke's reedy whisper.
"The songs on Volcano Volcano were written as affirmations of a shared world. The world as it is," said Lambke in a statement. "It was written against the liars and politicians and corporations and police who say that life, your life, can be lived individually, on individually enclosed land, can be raised or punished individually, and outside the reckoning of history. Against the billionaires and their spaceships who imagine environmentally controlled existences on distant planets. As if no storms on Mars!"
Lead single "Every Lover Knows" teeters between slack rock jangle and rousing protest folk, padded out by gentle background vocals. Keeping with Lambke's old-school sensibilities, the track is accompanied by B-side "Deep Water," a non-album track, which draws on the lyrics and message of Johnny Cash's "The Streets of Laredo" in its pursuit of a better world.
