Finnish producer Darude took electronic music by storm in 1999 with the release of his recognizable trance cut "Sandstorm," which has since gone on to gain recognition in sports and online communities. But what is the artist's history with the force of nature with which his song shares a name?
During a Reddit AMA yesterday (July 26), Darude (born Ville Virtanen) revealed he has actually never actually been in a sandstorm before. The closest he had ever come was being in a "smaller one, dust devil, or whatever you want to call it."
Of course, it's worth mentioning that he might have seen one before. "I've got a picture from a few years back, when I was landing in Arizona I believe it was," he wrote. "I literally landed like few minutes a sandstorm blew thru the airport area and you can see the edge on the pic. I tweeted something like 'I've arrived' with the pic!"
Other topics covered in the AMA include fan interactions, best and worst gigs, and drag racing fans through the streets of Atlanta. Read through it here before blaring the sweet sounds of "Sandstorm" in the player below.
