Nashville-via-NYC's Samia has announced her sophomore album and shared its lead single "Kill Her Freak Out," as well as a slew of headlining tour dates that will bring her to Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver in 2023.

Honey arrives January 27 via Grand Jury. It follows the singer-songwriter's 2020 debut album The Baby and last year's Scout EP — one of Exclaim!'s 25 Best of 2021.

Produced by Caleb Wright, the new album was recorded at Betty's, the North Carolina studio owned by Amelia Meath and Nick Sanborn of Sylvan Esso. It features additional contributions from some of the artist born Samia Finnerty's dearest friends, including Christian Lee Hutson, who also worked on current Exclaim! cover star Maya Hawke's MOSS.

Samia shared in a release:

This record is about learning to see the love around you. Sometimes the only thing I can be certain of is the way it feels. Even when I zoom all the way out, the little things matter the most. I was trying to imagine looking back at the end of life and what I'd have to say about it right now. This is a little bit of it. Telling stories, making amends, trying to show people I love them. It's a community record — I made it with Caleb Wright and our friends in the woods in North Carolina.

"I wrote 'Kill Her Freak Out' at my loneliest and most delusional," she added of its tightly-wound lead single. "I'd been quieting my true feelings for fear that someone would leave. The chorus is a reaction to constantly downplaying the emotions that felt wrong; it was cathartic to say the opposite of what I'd been saying for so long to this person I was trying to impress. I didn't want to kill anyone, obviously, I just wanted to yell. It sort of marks the end of The Baby's story."

After supporting Maggie Rogers across the UK and Europe later this year, the musician's headlining run begins February 6 in Asheville, NC. Joined by Tommy Lefroy, she'll play Montreal's Le Studio TD on Valentine's Day, Toronto's Opera House on February 15 and Vancouver's Hollywood Theatre on February 24 before wrapping things up in Nashville, TN, on March 11.

Tickets go on sale Friday (October 1) at 10 a.m. local time via the singer-songwriter's website, following a presale beginning tomorrow (September 28) at noon for fans who sign up through Seated.
