Sade have yet to release a follow-up to 2010's Soldier of Love, but it's been reported that the singer and her eponymous group have been at work on new material.
According to Billboard, the band have been recording at Miraval Studios in Correns, France. The storied facility, owned by Brad Pitt and co-operated by French composer and producer Damien Quintard, is part of French estate Château Miraval.
Now officially reopened, Miraval Studios has previously hosted the likes of AC/DC, Judas Priest, the Cranberries, the Cure, Muse, Wham!, Steve Winwood, Yes and more. Sade had previously spent time at Miraval recording 1985 sophomore album Promise and 1988 follow-up Stronger Than Pride.
Billboard notes how the group were the first to record at the now-reopened studio, with Quintard sharing of their session, "You could feel the love that she and the band had for this place."
In 2018, Sade shared "Flower of the Universe" as part of the soundtrack for Ava DuVernay's adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time. Later that year, the band also contributed "The Big Unknown" to the soundtrack of Steve McQueen's Widows.
That year, guitarist/saxophonist Stuart Matthewman shared in an interview that the band have "a bunch of songs" written for a new record, explaining, "[Sade's] not interested in the fame or any of that [other] stuff. She likes to put out art. So when it's ready, it will come out."
In 2020, Sade released a career-spanning vinyl box set which, along with the group's six studio albums, featured a foam spacer imprinted with a question mark, as if to tease a forthcoming LP. Furthering that speculation, a press release for the tome teased that "the band's studio work may not yet be fully complete."
In what could be some musical manifestation, one of Sade's studio efforts recently appeared among Exclaim! staff's favourite fall albums.
