Two things often come to mind with Rolling Stones guitar hero Keith Richards. Firstly, how is this guy still alive? Secondly, how can he still be smoking?! Well, the 76-year-old has apparently quit smoking at long last.
Richards made the big reveal while promoting the Rolling Stones' newly announced North American tour. Speaking to New York radio station Q104.3 [via NME], Richards said he hasn't touched a cigarette since October, saying the decision came so he can remain active in music for as long as he can.
When asked about if he's actually quit smoking, Richards replied, "Done that, been there," saying he hasn't lit up since last fall.
"I think both Mick and I felt that on the last tour we were just getting going," he explained. "[We]'ve got to continue this."
As reported last summer, Keef's smoking had become so problematic that he had started using a "motorized ashtray" to avoid irritating longtime bandmate Mick Jagger's lungs.
