Yesterday (July 16), long-running political punkers Propagandhi announced that their next album, Failed States, will be dropping September 4, but details were minimal beyond that. The Winnipeg band have now offered up some more info to fill in the gaps.
A press release confirms the record, Propagandhi's sixth overall, will arrive care of Epitaph Records, marking the band's first for the iconic punk label. The 12-song set apparently further develops the "brazen metallic tendencies" of recent work with the group's punk rock roots.
"Our goal is always to create a no-holds-barred, forward-thinking, tip-of-the-hat to the giants -- Voivod, Rush, NoMeansNo, SNFU, Sacrifice, Razor, Guilt Parade —- that have gone before us," vocalist-guitarist Chris Hannah said in a statement. "We are in their debt and take the mission seriously. Even when we're singing about liking Kurt Russell as Captain Ron, we take the mission seriously. Failed States is our most formidable -- and to me personally, our most surprising -- attempt at conjuring the numinous from the quotidian. Yes, I had to look those words up."
Highlights from the album are said to include the prog-rock-tinged "Note to Self" and the thrash-inspired "Hadron Collision". You can stream the title cut, a judding, double-time metal masterpiece, down below.
In celebration of the new album, Propagandhi will be talking their new tunes on the road this fall. The North American trek kicks off in Canada at London, ON's Music Hall September 25, and will hit up a few more cities in Ontario and Quebec before dipping into the U.S. You can see the dates, which also feature Manitoban hardcore crew Comeback Kid, down below.
