As Primus take their 3D tour around North American, the bass-slappin' alt-rock vets are looking to the past with a deluxe reissue of their 1991 album Sailing the Seas of Cheese. It will be out in various formats on May 21 through Universal.
The CD versions will come in a digipak that also contains a DVD or Blu-ray with the album in 5.1 surround sound. The audio restoration was overseen by the band's singer-bassist Les Claypool, who said in a statement, "Musically, it holds up incredibly well. Sonically, it holds up fairly well. There's some old-style reverbs that are a little bit syrupy. With modern technology, we can fix some of that stuff. But we don't want to mess with it too much, because it is what it is. We want to fatten it up a little bit."
The DVD and Blu-ray will include four different "trippy looking visualizers" to watch while you listen. For audiophiles, the Blu-ray comes with the option of Dolby TrueHD 5.1 Surround. CD versions will additionally come with three bonus tracks: two live recordings, plus a remix by Bassnectar. There are also new liner notes.
Finally, the new stereo mix of the album will also be available on vinyl. Most of the these copies will be black, but 1,000 hidden copies will come with yellow wax.
